The fifth sound I captured while walking down W. Abbot Ave. is of a dog barking wildly. While I was walking, I had already gotten used to my surroundings. It was as if I had become part of nature. I got so lost in listening to other sounds, that I did not notice the dog barking until I was a few feet away. It was then that I realized what was going on. I stopped to listen and try to capture as much as I could before somebody came out wondering why the dog was barking rabidly.
Ping (4th Sound)

The fourth sound I captured was metal hitting a flag pole on W. Clayton Crest Ave. This was another noise that I had not realized I had captured. After my walk, I went back to my dorm and listened to the recorder for interesting noises. It was then that I noticed the soft "pinging" of a flag pole in the background. Some might find the noise of the traffic traveling down the highway a bit distracting, but I think that it adds to the natural sounds of everyday life. Can you find the "ping?"
Hysteria in Milwaukee (3rd Sound)

The third sound I heard was one of a man laughing hysterically while walking down S. 22nd St. This was, unlike the last two sounds, noticeable right away. He had such a captivating laugh, I had to stop and listen to him. I knew I could not ask him to keep laughing because he might find that strange. So I had to make the most of the opportunity. You might wonder if I was part of some sort of movie because of his unique laughter, along with an unusual "whooping" noise that some how accompanies it. Yet, I was still in Milwaukee. Be patient and you hear the most unique laughter caught on tape.
Sidewalk Grind (2nd Sound)

For my second sound, I captured the grinding of a man trimming a sidewalk on W. Edgerton Ave. and 19th St. This was actually not the only time I encountered this type of sound on my walk. It was a clear, blue day with little wind and everybody was outside working in their yards. I was surprised to see that there were multiple people using the same type of trimmer and doing the same thing as the man on this recording. This is a bit of a unique sound and was unique how I captured it. I was approaching the man and kept taping the sound as I walked by. In a way, it is a natural fade-in and out, which I like to call the sidewalk grind.
Moving Day (1St Sound)

For my first sound, I captured the sound of men moving objects into a truck on S. 22nd Pl. I was walking down the sidewalk and saw people walking in and out of a house. Then, I noticed the moving truck. I started to walk slower as I approached the truck so that they could walk past, yet a fast enough pace to not miss the opportunity. When I reached my destination, it felt a little strange standing there to capture the sounds. I was not sure I would have a lot of time to capture sounds from the truck, yet I had to be patient. They just went about what they were doing and I captured their hard work as they moved objects around in the truck on moving day.
For my soundwalk, my strategy consisted of walking around one complete block and continuing on to the next block over, until I felt I had obtained some quality sounds. If I did not like one block, I would move on to the next one until I got five quality sounds.
I started on 19th and Edgerton and I continued down 20th street. I then reached W. Crayton Crest Ave. I continue down the street and came to S. 21st Street, where I took a right. I then reached W. Abbott Ave. and turned left when I got to S. 22nd Street. From there, I returned to W. Crayton Crest Ave. and turned right on S. 22nd Pl. Next, I turned left on W. Abbott Ave. and another left onto S. 23rd St.
I continued down S. 23rd St. and turned left onto W. Mallory Ave. I came to S. 22nd Pl taking a left and then a right onto W. Crayton Crest Ave. Next, I turned onto S. 22nd St taking a right and reached W. Mallory Ave. once again. I took a left onto W. Mallory Ave. and reached S. 21st St. I took a left onto S. 21st and then took a right onto W. Crayton until I reached S. 2oth St. I continued up S. 2oth street and took a right back onto W. Edgerton Ave. where I started and completed my walk.
